A brief history of the area
The name Bloubergstrand roughly translates to "Blue Mountain Beach" in reference to the blue shade over Table Mountain when seen from Blouberg's popular beach. The first known residents of Blouberg were the Goringhaikonas during the 16th and 17th centuries. Their leader, Harry die Strandloper, played an important role as an interpreter between the indigenous people and the Europeans that settled in the area. He would become the first postmaster in South Africa.
