Harfield Village, Cape Town

Harfield Village, is a quaint Chelsea-esque village rich in character and steeped in indigenous history which led to it being declared a Special Area in the 90’s – and residents will assure you it is a special area in more ways than one.

There is a community feel to Harfield with its own Harfield Village Association (complete with Facebook page) and residents spanning all ages. This is due largely to the Cape Peninsula Welfare Organization for the Aged homes being dotted in amongst the other modest sized manageable well kept cottagey abodes. Any given evening you will find Harfielders out pushing prams, riding bicycles and walking dogs, especially in the little parks maintained by residents.

It’s ideally located in the southern suburbs tucked quietly in between Kenilworth, Rondebosch, Newlands, Claremont and Wynberg which means:

• The “heart” of the school belt where a variety of schooling options including some of the top schools in Cape Town and South Africa can be found: Greenfield Girl’s Primary School, Kenilworth – Grove Primary School, Claremont – Herschel Junior and Senior Schools, Claremont – Springfield Convent Junior and Senior Schools, Wynberg –Western Province Preparatory School, Claremont – Wynberg Boy’s Senior and Junior Schools, Wynberg -
• Conveniently close proximity to medical amenities such as the Medicross and Kingsbury hospitals as well as many other general practitioners such as dentists, chiropractors and psychiatrists who have chosen to open practices in Harfield.
• It is a 15 minutes drive from Cape Town International Airport, 5 minutes to Kirstenbosch Gardens, Rhodes Memorial, Newlands Cricket and Rugby Stadiums and, 15 minutes from town and convenient to pop off on a brief drive in any direction to the nearest beach.
• On the spiritual side many lovely old churches as well as the now famous Saint James can be found in the area as well as a Buddhist Centre and the Practical School of Philosophy in neighboring suburbs.

With the railway conveniently located on one boundary and 2 stations (Kenilworth and Harfield) within a short distance one has easy access to both the city centre and any of the seaside towns from Muizenberg to Simonstown via this main commuter line – so pack a picnic and save some petrol.

There are a plethora of diverse restaurants/coffee shops in the area with some 10 restaurants on 2nd Avenue alone and it even boasts its own little nursery should you need to nip out for something to spruce up your garden, alternatively pop to one of the popular shopping centers of Cavendish, the recently upgraded Kenilworth Centre or the new Palmyra Junction.
