Pinelands is an undiscovered gem and offers some of the best value for money in the city's popular southern suburbs.
Pinelands was the first Garden City in South Africa, with many tree-lined streets. It is one of the most centrally situated suburbs in Cape Town and is unique in that it boasts the tranquillity of a village within a city. It has often been called the "15-minute suburb" as it lies between the north and south of Cape Town and is within a short distance of the airport, central Cape Town, and the V & A Waterfront. It is a peaceful suburb that is just off the N2 highway. The area is a big drawcard for families, people who work at Old Mutual, and buyers looking for homes close to the University of Cape Town and surrounding business areas.
Pinelands homes offer a variety of architectural styles, from gracious homes on large plots to modern renovated houses, security complexes, townhouses, and apartment blocks to character thatched homes. There are many guest houses. An older community is drawn to the area for its peaceful atmosphere, where there are several retirement homes. It also attracts young buyers who relish the thought of buying a spacious yet affordable family home and bringing their children up in a tranquil suburb that has many open parks where children can play.
A brief history of the area
Pinelands was originally a Victorian-era farm named Uitvlugt that had thousands of pine trees planted in it.

The suburb was designed with the principles of the Garden City movement, which emphasises green spaces and a mix of residential, commercial, and industrial areas. The first houses in Pinelands were built in the 1920s and 1930s, and the suburb continued to grow in popularity throughout the 20th century.
