About the suburb of Rosebank
Rosebank is a multicultural commercial and residential suburb of Sandton, located north of the Johannesburg city centre. Rosebank is known for its high-rise buildings, which include office towers, shopping centres, hotels, and apartment blocks, so it's hard to believe that this area was once farmland.
In the 1940s and 1950s, Rosebank developed into a mixed-use residential and business area. In the late 1980s and 1990s, Rosebank was considered mainly a commercial area with only a few blocks of flats. However, in recent years the area has seen tremendous residential growth, particularly in the form of high-rise, trendy apartment blocks (like Park Central), attracting buyers who want to live close to their place of work. There are over 1 000 apartments in Rosebank.
Rosebank residents can enjoy abundant entertainment at various excellent shopping malls, corner cafes, restaurants, markets, hotels, cinemas, art galleries, and nightclubs. It is a unique suburb in that it has effectively integrated a thriving commercial hub within an enjoyable working, shopping, and entertainment environment.
Interesting facts about the history of Rosebank
Construction in the Rosebank area began in the late 1940s, which is why many of the older apartment blocks and buildings are built in the Art Deco architectural style.

Art Deco was one of the first truly international styles, and it put together both luxury and technological progress. It had a modern styling at the time, but with a focus on excellence in craftsmanship. Art Deco-influenced building styles and interiors, of course, but also fashion, jewellery, and the art world.
