William Swan Field, and later his brother John Coote Field, owned Richmond Farm No. 999, of which Everton was a part. When John Coote Field died in 1896, the land was inherited by his wife and children.
In 1901, the farm was divided into twelve parts and distributed among the heirs. The area became the site of Krantz Kloof village in 1903, and today, Everton occupies a section of the former Richmond Farm alongside other neighbourhoods including Kloof, Forest Hills, Wyebank, Padfield Park, Surprise Farm, and Motala Farm.
