A brief history of the area
Santareme is named after Santarém, Portugal, the home town of Manuel de Perestrelo. This intrepid Portuguese explorer was one of the first visitors to St Francis Bay in 1575. The settlement flourished as a beachside residential district in the 1970s when the land was open for sale, and more people were able to move there.
