Stilbaai, also known as the Bay of Sleeping Beauty, is located on the southern coast of South Africa in the Garden Route region of the Western Cape. It is situated just off the N2 highway on the Garden Route with George airport only an hour away by car.
Stilbaai lies on the estuary of the Goukou River which divides the town in two and adds even more to the fabulous waterfront lifestyle on offer. Stilbaai is home to South Africa's only tame eels viewed in their natural habitat, while scores of Southern Right Whales frolic in the placid waters of the bay between July and October. Stilbaai also has the ancient fish traps at Morris Point and Stilbaai harbour, constructed by Strandlopers and visible at low tide. The area is also an ideal destination for eco-tourism with nature reserves to explore. Stilbaai has a unique limestone area with an abundance of natural springs, provided the ideal habitat for ancient man, whose footprints still linger here.
The town has mild winters and warm, sunny summers which allow the spectacular natural beauty to be enjoyed all year round. Hiking trails abound, which includes the Geelkranz Trail, Lappiesbaai Trail, Melkhoutfontein Trail, Noorkapper Trail, plus the Pauline Bohnen Route which is breathtakingly beautiful. A variety of sporting activities including tennis, squash, bowls and golf will keep you well entertained!
The excellent infrastructure makes Stilbaai a very convenient town to live in. There are a variety of restaurants and coffee shops along with supermarkets, doctors, dentists and two pharmacies. The harbour is a great place to buy fresh fish.
Stilbaai boasts a wide variety of architecture varying from Strandveld architecture to historical heritage and two National Monuments being Palinggat and Jagersbosch which adorn the centre of town.
