Active neighbourhoods add desirability and value to property

As we continue to navigate the socio-economic and property market shifts, it is becoming clear that active neighbourhoods and citizenry is increasingly adding desirability and value to neighbourhoods and property.

It is not just about rising crime, but also about playing a more active role in how our neighbourhoods are managed, maintained and developed. Aside from taking an active interest in security matters, property owners and residents should also take an interest in the general appearance and cleanliness of their neighbourhood.

Cleaning operations for communal areas and green belts are becoming commonplace in most neighbourhoods including Wynberg.

Having an interest in what is going on and up in a neighbourhood is another area that residents and property owners should participate in. Get to know your neighbourhood, your local councillor and the civic groups and organisations who are making a difference to your neighbourhood, and residents of Wynberg. Participate and have your say in one way or another, whether you agree or object to proposals for example.

In the Wynberg area, getting involved with security matters is important to ensure that your neighbourhood and property continue to attract demand and good prices. The Wynberg Improvement District has for example been in operation since 2000. In partnership with the City, it offers a "top-up" cleaning and security service to that supplied by the City. Visit www.wynbergid.co.za for more information.

Another important organisation is the Wynberg Residents' and Ratepayers Association, and you can find them on Facebook. There is also the Wynberg Village Society - see www.oldwynbergvillagesociety.org for more information - which aims to preserve the historic and cultural integrity of the neighbourhood, all of which add to the attraction for buyers, and property values for owners.

The yearly AGM is coming up on 29th April, at the Crank Handle Club at 6.00pm. Support your society and special area and be sure to attend. Our aim must be to continue to preserve and protect this very unique neighbourhood.

Home is our Story and property our passion.
