Scrumptious meals at the Doghouse Craft Café
The ambience at the Doghouse Craft Café - the stunning restaurant that operates hand in hand with Basset Breweries - offers as much to write home about as the menu. This is relaxed, casual dining at its best, with a play area for the kids, plenty of space for the dogs and relaxed vibes for the rest of the family. One of the things that truly stands out here is the way your furry friends are welcomed - cushions, water bowls and treats are all on the menu.
Speaking of menus, there's something to tantalise every tastebud at the Doghouse Craft Café, with wood-fired pizzas, garden salads, light meals, homestyle pies, homemade burgers, toasted sandwiches and more. Don't forget to save room for a mouthwatering desert. For those getting an early start, breakfast is also on offer.
Introducing the beers being produced at Basset Breweries
One of the many things that residents of Pennington (and people from much further afield) love about the beers produced by Basset Breweries is that they are specifically designed for hot, humid South African weather. Being lighter in body and having less hop bittering than other beers, they are the perfect way to quench the thirst brought on by the South African sun.
When sampling Basset Breweries' Umdoni Gold, look out for fragrant tropical aromas and a hint of spiciness amid the moderate bitterness. The Befreckled Red is an amber ale with a subtle caramel flavour and low bitterness. Named after its home town, Pennington Pride is a dark beer with a smoky flavour and hits of coffee and chocolate. Described as "a beer that simply tastes like more", Barking Blonde boasts fruity tones with a light maltiness and a bitter finish.
A brief history of the brewery
Basset Breweries is the brainchild and passion project of Andy Turner, a former electrical engineer turned head brewer. Together with his partner, Natalie Danks, they began the business of craft brewing in 2013. From humble beginnings that saw them operating out of a shed at the local driving range, the business grew from strength to strength and soon relocated to new premises.
In 2018, the business expanded to include the Doghouse Craft Café.
