The Garden Route contains a minimum of 45 000 different species of plants. What's impressive about this, it that over 69% of these are endemic to this region and can not be found anywhere else on earth!

Because it is one of the largest conservation areas in the country, this region attracts a large number of people - local and from overseas. Surrounding George, there are a lot of natural marvels, such as the Outeniqua Mountains that has a lot of natural waterfalls due to either snowy tops or the all so known cold and wet days.

Just underneath the mountains, there is hectares of natural and planted forests that houses various of wildlife, such as the bushbuck, Bushpig, Duiker, Baboons, and Monkeys. If you are really lucky, you might even spot one of our spotted predators - the Leopard.

Some residents that stay fairly close to the mountain have reported that they have spotted a large number of different bird species such as the Knysna Loerie, different types of Robins, Olive Thrush and Narina Trogons. But even if you can't see the birds through the thickly wooded areas, you will definitely hear them!  If you are keen on exploring the above-mentioned diversity in plant and animal species, go grab your best pair of walking shoes and make sure that your water bottle is full, because George has many trails that lead from the town to one of the highest peaks of the mountain.
