Give your home an easy festive makeover

Summer is arriving and with that, the annual festive seasons. Regardless of what you will be celebrating this coming festive season, giving your home a makeover is always a good idea.

You spend at least half of your life, if not more, in your home and it is always a good idea to give it a bit of a pep up. Seeff gives a few ideas:

Spring clean and declutter – the best way to enjoy the festive seasons is to have as little to do as possible and this is especially true for house cleaning. Give your home a good spring clean ahead of time to ensure it is nice and clean and fresh when December arrives. Over the festive season, you are likely to have more visitors and spend more time at home and it can quickly start feeling a bit crowded. While cleaning, be sure to also give it a good declutter.

Summer makeover – while winter colours and décor tends to be darker, summer colours are sunnier, often involving fresh citrus colours, blues and greens. You need not spend an awful lot of money redecorating your home for the festive season as you can find soft furnishings such as scatter cushions and a few décor items that you can use to update your home for the summer.

Outdoor attraction – you are now likely to start spending more time outdoors, on your patio and in your garden and it is a good time to start planting seedlings for the summer. Here too, you can change it up a bit and create a good flow to the outdoor and garden so that you can enjoy all aspects of your property over the festive season.

Festive décor – the shops are already stocking a variety of festive décor and accessories and you are bound to find something to suit your home and taste. If you are celebrating Christmas, then you may want to also get a tree. Décor need not be an expensive exercise either as there are many affordable options. Lighting and a few pieces of tinsel can make all the difference.

Home-made – often, you can involve your children in making decorative items for your Christmas tree, to decorate around the home and even to decorate your Christmas table. These are often more meaningful and you can even turn this into an annual family tradition and extend it to home-made gifts as well.

Festive food – summer is also a great time for healthy eating and introducing more fresh fruit and vegetables into your diet. If you are planning a big Christmas meal, don’t forget to start shopping for your essentials soon to ensure you can take advantage of any good items or price specials on offer. A festive meal also does not have to cost the earth as you can simply dress up your food with a few flowers and sprigs and some tinsel and shiny baubles on the table.

Going on holiday – if you are going away for the festive season, start preparing well in advance to ensure your home is secured and your insurances are up to date. For minimal disruption, you can consider a house or a pet sitter. When the time comes to depart, don’t forget to let your security company know that you will be away so that they can keep an eye on your property.
