Things to see and do in Tokai
Blue Route Mall is a big draw to the area and is filled with various stores, a cinema, restaurants and fast food joints.
If markets are your thing, Tokai is host to the Tokai Forest Market and the Earth Fair Market. The Tokai Forest Market has a wide variety of food stalls, book stalls and traders selling art, crafts and clothing. The Earth Fair Market is open two days a week and sells natural, healthy food including meat, bread, cheese, fresh fruit and veg. There is also local beer on tap and delicious dinner options.
Tokai is close to many hiking and walking trails, in the local forest itself as well as the nearby Silvermine Nature Reserve, both popular among cyclists, runners, and families and friends just wanting to enjoy the fresh air of the outdoors.
Through the forest and up the hill, past the old Tokai Manor Hall you will find the Tokai Arboretum, first established in 1886 by Joseph Storr Lister, Chief conservator of forests for the Cape Colony. You will find hundreds of species here including Californian redwoods and Oaks of various ages.
