Located in Polokwane Central, the Polokwane Art Museum houses more than 1000 pieces of art, most of which are from South Africa, and most of those from the province of Limpopo in particular. Get to explore the many works of art and open yourself to a world of creativity.
The museum is worth a visit not just for the outstanding talent on exhibit but also for the concentration on Limpopo, which provides terrific insight into the culture, history, and heart of the Limpopo area and its people. The finest paintings and handcrafted items from local artists are on display for your viewing pleasure.
An extensive collection of the best cultural works
Many works of art displayed by Venda, Pedi, and Tsonga painters deal with the region's significant mythology. You may also go to the downtown sculpture park in Polokwane, the only park of its sort in South Africa.
It features masters from Limpopo and the country and is one of the best regional craft displays. The Polokwane Craftsmanship Historical focus is home to a striking get-together of South African artistry with a specific emphasis on the Limpopo Territory.
View the works of renowned artists
This museum collection features ceramics, paintings, sculptures, photographic prints, and projects of renowned South African artists. The museum's permanent collection has won acclaim for the breadth and depth of the work it presents as representative of local artists.
Discover some of the works of Johannes Segogela, famous for his paintings of humans and animals and his blending of spiritual and political themes. Segogela needed to be trained in art in an official capacity. Although he has been working as a professional artist since 1980, he spent many years before that carving wooden sculptures.
While the art of Avhashoni Mainganye celebrates the holy locations and practices of the Venda people, exploring traditional themes in new ways, Mainganye's work does the opposite. Most of his work is about his Venda culture.
The art museum also has work by Lucas Thobejane, whose work has transcended the boundaries between the human and animal kingdoms and between modern and ancient times. Also, you can look out for art created by William Kentridge, Braam Kruger and Jack Botes.
