Sit and sip at Villiersdorp Winery

Good wines have reached cult-like status among those who appreciate the finer things in life. There is something special about swirling around the colours of deep ruby or clear sunlight in your glass and smelling the different aromas infused in it. One of the oldest cellars in the country can be found at Villiersdorp Winery. This beautiful establishment is home to quality, affordable wines that all come with a pedigree backstory. We take you through the highlights of Villiersdorp Winery

The historic value of Villiersdorp Winery

Initially founded to produce grape jam and grape juice concentrate, Villiersdorp Winery has the best methods for wine production in its DNA. Beginning in 1922, this humble cellar has grown into a must-see pit stop for all those who visit and live in the scenic area of Villiersdorp. Famous for apple farming, the area boasts a cool climate that has proven perfect for wine grapes.

Theewaterskloof Dam was built in the early 1980s and access to irrigation was achieved. This made it even simpler to produce a high standard of wine grapes and it was a no-brainer that the cellar would be used for exactly that purpose. Wines produced from Villiersdorp have an exquisite taste of the valley that can't be replicated anywhere else.

Indulge in unique blends

Villiersdorp Winery prides itself on making fine wines accessible to the public at affordable prices, while still offering an extensive range. You can choose between the Slow Range, Villiersdorp Winery Range or the Heritage Range. Each range has a list of wines specifically blended to suit your needs and preferences from your wine of choice. Explore the popular blends in the respective ranges by pinpointing what you want to experience in your glass.

Slow range

This easy drinking range offers a comfortable selection of every vino lover's best blends. The mission was to create well-priced bottles that could be enjoyed over a meal with family and friends. Aptly named the Slowines, this range features wines that are a collaborative effort between Villiersdorp Winery and the Groenland Mountains. It is the stage of the first Wine and Biodiversity project in South Africa called the Green Mountain Eco Route which focuses on the preservation, work and curated leisure that go into producing these wines. Enjoy a Slow Chenin Blanc 2021, Slow Rose 2021 or a Slow Merlot 2019 any time you like.

Villiersdorp Winery Range

This range embraces wines with bold flavours. Traditional house blends are made available for tasting and purchase and you can select from a Sauvignon Blanc 2021, Pinotage 2019, Syrah 2018 or a Treintjiewyn Hanepoot Jerepigo.

Heritage Range

Villiersdorp Winery honours its history of producing moskonfyt (grape jam) with a decadent selection of wines designed to tempt your palate even further. These wines leave a lasting impression on any guest and have become classics in the Villiersdorp Winery lineup. You can enjoy a Mosko White Blend 2018, Kiara Red Blend or a premium Chenin Blanc dessert wine. They best complement rich meals and special occasions.

Speaking of good food and great wines, Kelkiewyn Restaurant is a family-owned business that is used as the tasting premises for Villiersdorp Winery. The meals here are freshly prepared and the restaurant is open seven days a week. The hospitality is unmatched and the venue can also be used for birthdays, corporate events and functions upon request.
