Why Pinetown residents love their area's weather

Nestled between Kloof and Westville at the base of Field's Hill, Pinetown makes a wonderful home for many. With easy access to anywhere you need to go as well as great shops and amenities on your doorstep, there's loads to love about the area. Perhaps topping the list of reasons to live in Pinetown is the outstanding weather that you'll enjoy here. Seeff, a leading real estate agency in the area, takes a look at all the reasons to love Pinetown's weather.

Typical weather patterns in Pinetown

Being part of KwaZulu-Natal, Pinetown enjoys relatively mild weather all year round. Summers are warm and humid, with the mercury regularly rising into the high 20s or low to mid 30s. Hot spells are frequently broken by evening thunderstorms and Pinetown gets the vast majority of its rainfall during the summer months, which are between December and March. Winter days in Pinetown typically see the temperature rise to the high teens or low 20s. Winter nights often see residents reaching for jerseys, blankets and heaters, with temperatures dropping to around 10°C. In summer, the evenings tend to stay balmy and create the perfect conditions for braais and al fresco entertaining, with temperatures typically being in the low 20s.

One of the many things to love about living in Pinetown is that the temperatures are neither as hot and humid as Durban's nor as cold as those experienced in nearby suburbs like Kloof and Hillcrest.

Everything Pinetown's sunshine can do for your health and wellbeing

While protecting your skin from the effects of the sun is a must, the health benefits of that golden orb glowing over Pinetown are not to be underestimated. For starters, medical experts believe that sunlight triggers the brain to release a mood-boosting hormone called serotonin. This helps you feel calm, relaxed and ready to handle whatever life brings your way. The sun's rays also cause the skin to create Vitamin D, which helps to keep your bones healthy. In addition, research has shown that exposure to sunlight can help you sleep better. Just remember, if you're going to be out in the sun for more than 15 minutes, sunscreen is a must.

Get out and about and enjoy the great weather

Pinetown is home to an abundance of places to get outside and get that dose of Vitamin D. For starters, Giba Gorge offers "Pinetonians" the chance to explore trails on their mountain bikes or go hiking. There are hiking trails suitable for everyone from beginners to those looking for something challenging. And Instagrammers of Pinetown take note - the views of the three waterfalls to be found on Giba's hiking trails are a must for your feed.

Paradise Valley Nature Reserve is a 100-hectare respite from city life right here in Pinetown. There are four hiking trails in the reserve, all of which start at an interpretive centre and head down through a picnic area, where the less actively inclined can enjoy a peaceful afternoon. The nature reserve is home to the Umbilo Waterworks, which were built in 1887. This is one of the two national monuments to be found in Pinetown.

A third place to visit when you're wanting to make the most of Pinetown's gorgeous weather is the Sarnia Japanese Gardens. Described by one reviewer as a "beautiful, well-kept garden on a small scale", this is the perfect spot to relax and let the kids play.

Over and above its superb weather, Pinetown offers an array of great real estate, ranging from flats and complexes to stunning standalone houses. Contact Seeff to find your new home in Pinetown or to learn more about the area.
