Looking for a haven of peace and tranquility- 5km from town?

Web Ref. RLS966108
This property (10.6 ha) has mountain views from three sides, is partly bordered by the Sundays River and sheer cliffs and lays nestled in one of the most peaceful areas of the country, know as the Wolwas Graaff-Reinet (far removed from the village of Adendorp) The place was owned by one family for 3/4 of a century- an ideal place to live and raise a family. The large 307m2 lovely old homestead- set far back from the road has 4 bedrooms,1 bathroom,2 lounges (one with excellent fireplace), dining room with French doors onto patio, office, large pantry and farm style kitchen. At he front entrance is a lovely enclosed "lived-in" porch leading into the house. The high ceilings and steeply pitched roof are a boon in the summer months.

Facing west, with stunning view of the iconic Spandaukop, is a large separate guest room with a full en-suite bathroom and Oregon pine fitted kitchen which the owners currently Airbnb (they have super host status) There is and abundance of beautiful trees in the garden around the house e.g. Tipiana, Jacaranda, Fir, Palm and others.

This beautiful lifestyle property is suitable for farming as it has lock up kraals (semi-roofed), a loading ramp and many well fenced paddocks all supplied with drinking troughs. Considering the growth of Graaff Reinet, the property could also be ideal for holiday or housing estate development. The local golf club is just across the river.

Outbuildings include sheds, 4 workshops/storage rooms, 2 lock up garages and 3 carports. Further away are two semi-detached staff quarters as well as a large cottage in need of TLC.

The water rights are unable to be exercised at present due to the ineptness of the local municipality. An expert hydrogeologist this year identified two drilling sites that hold great promise for irrigation or development. An existing borehole (4000 litres per hour) serves the garden, some paddocks, 2 reservoirs (one used as a swimming pool in summer), the BNB, the staff quarters, the livestock paddocks and the kraals. The rest of the water and power is provided by the municipality.

This is THE most peaceful place in Graaff-Reinet.

Adendorp, Graaff-Reinet

Graaff-Reinet is well known as being one of South Africa's oldest towns and is commonly referred to as "the heart of the Great Karoo". A couple of things you may not have known about Graaff-Reinet are that it is renowned for its Cape Dutch architecture and that an abundance of pre-dinosaur fossils has been found in the area. A brief history of the area Graaff-Reinet was founded in 1786 by governor Cornelius van de Graaff. Reinet House, which is now a museum, was named in honour of the governor's wife, Cornelia, and is home to one of the largest living grapevines in the world. From as early as the late 18th century, Graaff-Reinet was a busy trading centre, and the area's reputation of being a great place to break up a journey...
